The next Hilltop Civic Association meeting will be held on Thursday, January 26, at 7:30 p.m. at the Bon Air Fire Hall on Royal Avenue.

Come hear about upcoming events and meet Rep. Nick Micozzie who will become our new State Representative. With the new plan recently approved by the state as a result of the post-census PA House and Senate redistricting, the 9th and 1st Wards become part of the 163rd State Legislative District represented by Nick Micozzie. Representative Micozzie welcomes this opportunity to share his perspective on this change.

Hilltop Playground Welcomes New Equipment

This September, Hilltop playground got a new play system – a result of a partnership between the Hilltop Civic Association and Haverford Township’s Recreation Department. Stop by, and you’ll see how popular the new equipment is!

HCA approached the township at members urging to replace aging equipment last year. Earlier this year, the Township contacted us to seek recommendations for modifications. After a few meetings and lots of research by our chairpersons, Sean and Kate Stickel, (pouring over catalogs and watching kids play at other area playgrounds), we submitted our recommendations which were accepted by the Township. Just a few months later, the aging pieces have been removed and a new, safer, modern play system is in place.

“What a great result – it’s only one piece but it is making a big difference to the kids in the area,” said Amy Clevens, President of the Civic Association. “I’m so happy we were able to help with such an impactful project.” Amy went on to on say that the Civic Association hopes to see new trees, benches, and additional equipment at the playground in the future.

Thanks to Sean & Kate Stickel (Concord Ave) for representing the Civic Association, as well as Township employee Eric Gillard (Park Maintenance Superintendent for the Recreation Department) for their partnership on this project!

Halloween Decorating Contest Winners Announced

HCA ghosts and goblins were out checking out the holiday decorations and will be awarding $25 prizes to Paul & Diane Marconi, 1020 Steel Road, and Lisa Cuskey, 619 Country Club Lane.

Thanks to Amy Clevens for coordinating the contest and to Katie Cooper, Jeanne Montgomery, and Jackie Engler for helping with the judging. As always, thanks to all who participated in the contest and helped to once again foster Halloween spirit in Hilltop.

Fall Social a Success

Our fall social held at Tip O’Leary’s on November 5 was a a great opportunity for members to socialize with friends and meet new neighbors! A great time was had by all.

We’d like to give a big thank you to Kathy Murphy of Tip O’Leary’s for providing an inexpensive night out for our members. Also many thanks to Saigon Harbor, Vito’s Italiano Hoagies, The Beauty Suite, and MacDougall’s Irish Victory Cakes for their donations for our raffles.

Kudos to Tina Crognale and Gina Pompilio for organizing a great event, and thanks to all who came out.

Hilltop Playground/Field Cleanup – November 19

Answer:

Hilltop Playground/Field Cleanup Day! Saturday, November 19, from 9 a.m. til noon. Rain date is November 26.

Please join the Hilltop Civic Association and the Hilltop Baseball, Softball, and Challenger Leagues as we come together as a community to clean up our park. Bring the family armed with trash bags, gloves or other supplies you’d be willing to donate to the event. Donations of refreshments for volunteers are also welcome.

Hilltop Civic Association Needs You

If you’ve already paid your annual dues, thank you. If you haven’t, please do it now!

In addition to your dues which helps fund HCA programs, WE NEED YOU to ensure our association will continue in the future. We know there are many innovative, committed members who could become an integral part of the board. It doesn’t take a huge commitment. There are only five meetings a year, we have faithful volunteers who support or chair our events, and current board members will be available to provide guidance to new board members.

Our civic association sponsors events such as the 4th of July parade/program, Santa fire truck visit, Garden, Halloween, and Holiday lights contests, Education grants, tree lottery, and social functions. We also partner with our commissioners to keep members apprised and involved when issues of interest arise in our neighborhood.

It’s a great way to get to know your neighbors and to make our community stronger than ever! So DON’T DELAY. Contact a board member today for more information about getting involved.
