TIME: 7:45 PM

Remember when you were a kid, and the whole family would squeeze into the car and go to the drive-in for a movie? Well here’s a modern day twist, a FREE movie under the stars at Steel Field. ‘A Bug’s Life’ is a great animated movie for all ages.

Bring a blanket or chairs and get ready for a fun night. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. Get there early to find a good spot. We had several hundred people at our last movie. If the movie must be cancelled due to rain, we’ll post it here and at the field. (revised rain date Sunday, June 10)

Your membership dues help to sponsor great community events like this one. If you haven’t paid your dues yet for 2012, you can mail your $10 check payable to Hilltop Civic Association c/o Susan Revelle, 1204 Fairview Avenue, Havertown, PA 19083. The application form is available here on our website. If you prefer, you can even pay by PayPal for a small fee to help defray the cost to HCA. Our annual dues for the whole family is only slightly more than the cost of one ticket at a movie theater.

A big thank you to our sponsors for making this event possible:

Our sixth annual HCA Easter Egg Hunt was held on Saturday, April 7th and it did not disappoint. It was a beautiful day, and loads of children came armed with their baskets to collect some of those 2,300 filled eggs!

We had a craft table and jelly bean contest set up by Kim Shoemaker and manned by two very responsible and eager 4th grade girls from Manoa (Nicole Mazella and Katie Lawler). The Alex’s Lemonade Stand was manned by the Scala family and raised $500 in donations. Creative Clubhouse had 6 Easels set up for kids to paint their own picturesm, and we had a tattoo station manned by Mary Anne Degnan and Cecilia Gerard (our former presidents).

There was also Face painting and a coloring contest, 20 raffles, and shopping with local craft vendors – Bowtessa and Strange Lady Jewelry, soft pretzels, and even a visit from the Easter Bunny (thank you Bon Air Fire Company).

A big thank you to Gina Pompilio for her outstanding coordination of this popular event and her long list of businesses and volunteers who helped make this year’s egg hunt the huge success that it was.

This September, Hilltop playground got a new play system – a result of a partnership between the Hilltop Civic Association and Haverford Township’s Recreation Department. Stop by, and you’ll see how popular the new equipment is!

HCA approached the township at members urging to replace aging equipment last year. Earlier this year, the Township contacted us to seek recommendations for modifications. After a few meetings and lots of research by our chairpersons, Sean and Kate Stickel, (pouring over catalogs and watching kids play at other area playgrounds), we submitted our recommendations which were accepted by the Township. Just a few months later, the aging pieces have been removed and a new, safer, modern play system is in place.

“What a great result – it’s only one piece but it is making a big difference to the kids in the area,” said Amy Clevens, President of the Civic Association. “I’m so happy we were able to help with such an impactful project.” Amy went on to on say that the Civic Association hopes to see new trees, benches, and additional equipment at the playground in the future.

Thanks to Sean & Kate Stickel (Concord Ave) for representing the Civic Association, as well as Township employee Eric Gillard (Park Maintenance Superintendent for the Recreation Department) for their partnership on this project!

If you’ve already paid your annual dues, thank you. If you haven’t, please do it now!

In addition to your dues which helps fund HCA programs, WE NEED YOU to ensure our association will continue in the future. We know there are many innovative, committed members who could become an integral part of the board. It doesn’t take a huge commitment. There are only five meetings a year, we have faithful volunteers who support or chair our events, and current board members will be available to provide guidance to new board members.

Our civic association sponsors events such as the 4th of July parade/program, Santa fire truck visit, Garden, Halloween, and Holiday lights contests, Education grants, tree lottery, and social functions. We also partner with our commissioners to keep members apprised and involved when issues of interest arise in our neighborhood.

It’s a great way to get to know your neighbors and to make our community stronger than ever! So DON’T DELAY. Contact a board member today for more information about getting involved.
